For those not watching the Honolulu City Council meeting, Mayor Mufi Hannemann offered this view of the public hearings on the city budget via Twitter:

“@MufiHannemann hundreds of people @ City Council meeting, concerned about council’s proposed budget cuts & their potential impacts on our quality of life.”

City Councilman Donovan Dela Cruz was also live tweeting from the meeting. After being the lone dissenter on a bill that would raise the fuel tax by 3 cents per gallon, the prospective mayoral candidate explained why:

“@DonovanDelaCruz I’m not supporting a gas tax increase! I can’t believe councilmembers entertaining the idea. Was surprised to hear Blue Planet’s testimony.”

(I was actually watching. The Blue Planet Foundation supported the bill because half of the $9 million in projected revenue would be used to help homeowners finance solar water heaters, photovoltaic panels and other energy-efficient devices.)

If it seemed odd that Councilman Charles Djou didn’t object to raising gas prices, or the real property tax rate increases Dela Cruz also voted against, this tweet explains what the U.S. Congressional candidate was doing instead:

“@Djou4Hawaii Charles is coming right up on Hannity at 3:30 here in Hawaii! Be sure to tune in as momentum builds for the last… http://bit.ly/9OYWaO”
