Hoonani Salon and Day Spa’s appointment book is packed for the day, though customers are still calling owner Jennifer Greneaux for hair and massage appointments. The hair dryers are roaring, and the two hair stylists in the shop have scissors in hand. The row of waiting chairs are full with some people still wearing foil crowns.

At $50 a haircut, Greneaux, 32, considers her price competitive, charging less for massages, haircuts and wax treatments than high-end resorts. Last year, the spa was able to maintain a steady flow of business, though since January, patronage has started to grow again.

“We’re in a different price point,” Greneaux says. “We get a lot more business.”
