It was the day after. And both parties started their campaigns anew, looking ahead to the Nov. 2 general election.

The Democrats held a unity breakfast at 9 a.m. The Republicans got together at 11 for their own unity lunch.

The most powerful Democrat, Sen. Daniel K. Inouye, wasn’t there. He, along with Sen. Daniel Akaka, was in Washington, even though he was the “host” of the breakfast.

On the Republican side, Gov. candidate James “Duke” Aiona held a press conference at exactly the same time as the party’s unity lunch.
