With a week to go before the deadline to request an absentee ballot for the general election, more Hawaii voters have already done so than in the whole of the primary election.

Walk-in voting begins Tuesday at Honolulu Hale and runs through Oct. 30.

According to county election offices, Honolulu, Kauai, Maui and the Big Island have already outpaced the primary election in terms of ballot requests.

Officials for the City and County of Honolulu say they have sent out about 95,000 ballots compared to the total of 88,000 for the primary. The same goes for Kauai, with 8,400 sent out for the general and 6,800 for the primary; Maui distributed 9,000 for the general and 8,000 for the primary; and the Big Island has sent out approximately 9,900 for the general compared to 7,900 in the primary.

Voters have until 4:30 p.m. on Oct. 26 to request an absentee ballot.
