Some sad news for amateur golfers hoping for some playing time with the pros: The Sony Pro-Am has been canceled due to the rain.

Fifty-one teams were supposed to tee-off for one round of golf on Wednesday. The event pairs a PGA pro with a team of amateurs.

Things don’t look much better for Thursday’s Sony Open, either. As of Wednesday, the National Weather Service in Honolulu reports a 90 percent chance of rain, including possible thunderstorms for the tournament’s opening round Thursday morning. Rain could put a damper on Friday as well, though forecasters expect the showers to lighten up on Saturday and Sunday, with just a 30 percent to 40 percent chance of rain.

A tour spokesman told Civil Beat that tournament officials will make a decision late Wednesday about whether the open will take a mulligan.
