More bad news for Hawaii schools: The state may lose its fourth private school in 12 months by summer. Lutheran High School in Manoa announced it will be closing for good unless it can find more funding. The decision affects 100 students. Other schools to close in the last year include Holy Trinity in Kuliouou, Word of Life Academy in Honolulu and St. Joseph School on Maui. Nearly one-fifth of Hawaii students attend private schools — higher than the national average — but rising tuition costs have not been enough for some schools to combat the recession.
