Sen. Daniel Akaka is among a group of senators urging federal agencies to release information about mortgage services’ foreclosure practices. Akaka and eight other senators signed a letter that was sent this week to the Federal Reserve, the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency and the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation

They wrote that they have concerns about persisting reports of so-called “robo-signing,” in which mortgage services wrongfully foreclose on homeowners by falsely verifying they have reviewed property documents.

Senators also expressed concern about conflicts of interest among consultants reviewing possible foreclosures, saying the consultants were hand-picked by the very groups they are tasked with investigating.
