We asked Case to explain his thinking on PAC donations, and to describe the kinds of donations he would refuse. Here’s an excerpt from an email DC808 received from Case on Thursday night:
“Mazie is a staunch defender of the Jones Act and I’ve suggested some reforms and so the individuals, companies and unions that benefit directly from the Jones Act support her on that basis; no other issues really matter to them. Looking at the contributors in your story, it looks like around $15,000 is direct Jones Act special interest money.
“I don’t view it as wrong that contributors contribute on a special interest basis or that candidates accept such contributions on that basis. I’ve done so myself; if we agree on the specific interest, fine; if we don’t, we can always talk it through. There haven’t been too many times where I’ve declined the contribution, probably because I do say what I believe and so special interests that don’t agree don’t contribute.”
