Though it appeared that President Barack Obama wanted GOP members of Congress to be bombarded with phone calls from constituents, even the president’s Democratic supporters are weighing in on the debt debate.

In an address Monday night, Obama urged Americans to contact their congressional representatives about the debt-ceiling debate.

Here’s what Rep. Colleen Hanabusa’s communications director told us about the response in her office:

“When we checked our office voicemail this morning – it was 80% full,” Ashley Nagaoka told DC808 in an email. “The majority of the messages were asking the Congresswoman to raise the debt ceiling, but to continue to protect Social Security and Medicare.”

Nagaoka also says Hanabusa received 130 new emails overnight.

“Most of them were part of a campaign – to support President Obama and raise the debt ceiling,” she said.
