Rep. Colleen Hanabusa signed her support for a bill that would halt payments for members of Congress if the federal government defaults.

Hanabusa joins at least two dozen others who have said they’re in favor of House Resolution 2653, also known as the “Stop Pay For Members Act.”

Here’s how the bill’s introducer, Rep. Jim Cooper (D-Tenn.) explained its purpose:

“If default occurs, another paycheck for Members of Congress should not be an option… Members of Congress should not be getting paid while veterans, seniors, and those with disabilities aren’t receiving benefits.”
