The Washington Post reports that Coburn wants to make retired, uninjured soldiers and their dependents pay more for health care, including increasing co-payments and the cost of prescription drugs.
This isn’t the first time cuts to Tricare have been pitched as a way to save money. The newspaper reports that former Defense Secretary Robert Gates proposed raising the price of family enrollment in Tricare from $460 per year to $520 per year.
Coburn’s plan would entail a much steeper increase, and make the cost of enrollment in the program comparable to private-sector health plans.
