All four members of Hawaii’s congressional delegation have slammed Republicans for the plan, which they say unfairly burdens the most vulnerable Americans. Sen. Daniel Inouye told DC808 he thought his congressional colleagues supporting a balanced budget amendment should “study a little government in history.”
“It is misguided and assumes that our nation will pay no price if we fail to invest in our future,” Inouye said in a speech on the Senate floor Thursday. “These are some of the assumptions of this measure: Highways will not buckle… bridges will not collapse, and there’s no need to invest in the next generation of innovators to keep America competitive.”
Inouye said the plan would “gut the very funding we need to revitalize our economy and invest in the future.”
