Democrats said in a statement issued by Hoyer’s office that they want Republicans to “stop letting extremists in their party” block the reauthorization bill.
Bickering over FAA spending has left thousands of agency workers off the job, including a handful of workers in Hawaii. The stalemate, centered on a government subsidy to rural airports, has also halted tens of thousands of construction jobs.
Republicans argue that Democrats have been unwilling to cooperate. Here’s what Sen. Orrin Hatch (R-Utah) said in a statement on Wednesday:
“Republicans have laid out what’s best for the country by providing a reasonable resolution, but Democrats have repeatedly objected. They apparently can’t take yes for an answer.”
