In an email newsletter on Friday, Hanabusa expressed concern that Paul Ryan (R-Wisc.) could be appointed to the congressional “super committee” that’s tasked with making $1.5 trillion in cuts by Thanksgiving.
Ryan made headlines last winter with his ambitious Roadmap for America’s Future budget plan. The plan spooked and outraged Democrats with drastic cuts. Even some in the GOP — especially those facing re-election in the near future — have kept their distance from the Ryan plan.
Hanabusa said she worries that Medicare is on the chopping block, and asked for signatures on a petition to save it.
“I need you to help me fight to save Medicare,” Hanabusa wrote. “Potential cuts include programs like Meals on Wheels, transit funding, Head Start programs, and — perhaps most troubling — Medicare.”
