A spokeswoman for HUD in Washington, D.C., told DC808 that Sec. Shaun Donovan will participate in public events on Wednesday and Thursday. No word yet on what those events will involve, or where in the Islands he will be.
Donovan’s visit to Hawaii coincides with the Honolulu’s attempts to bring an elder care center into compliance with federal grants requirements. If it fails to do so, HUD says the city will have to repay $7.9 million.
A regional spokeswoman for HUD told DC808 that a planned letter from HUD to the city — which will outline the federal agency’s concerns about the city’s compliance plans, she said — will be sent to Honolulu officials this week.
The letter was expected to go out last week, but HUD officials in Honolulu have been prepping for Donovan’s visit, the spokeswoman said.
