Ever notice how people who aren’t from Hawaii fail to understand that the Islands are more than just a vacation destination? 

A congressional field hearing to be held this month on Maui drew scorn in a Friday article published by the Daily Caller, the website launched by conservative commentator Tucker Carlson.

Sen. Daniel Akaka is holding an Indian Affairs Committee hearing on Maui next Wednesday. The topic: “Strengthening Self Sufficiency: Overcoming Barriers to Economic Development in Native Communities.” 

But it appears the Daily Caller isn’t aware that Hawaii has native communities of its own. 

“It’s unclear if the field hearing will focus on any issues relating at all to Hawaii,” wrote the Daily Caller’s Matthew Boyle, who did not respond to an email from DC808 about the article.

A subsequent article by Boyle, published Friday afternoon, refers to the hearing as “Maui madness.”
