The following states also showed a strong Democratic advantage: Maryland, Connecticut, New York, Massachusetts, Vermont, Rhode Island, Illinois and Delaware.
Nationwide, Democrats had a slight advantage in the first six months of the year, with 44 percent of those polled leaning left and 40 percent leaning right.
The most Republican state was Utah. Others with a strong GOP advantage included: Idaho, Wyoming, Alaska, North Dakota, Kansas, Nebraska, Alabama, Montana and South Carolina.
