One of DC808‘s readers wanted more information about the large white object in the foreground of a photo we recently posted.
The figure is a miniature version of the Statue of Freedom, the 20-foot-tall, 15,000-pound woman who stands atop the U.S. Capitol.
Sen. Daniel Akaka is especially fond of Lady Freedom, as she’s known. He spearheaded a restoration and subsequent display of the original plaster cast of the statue, which now stands in Emancipation Hall for visitors to see up-close.
