Secretary of State Hillary Clinton is focusing on the Asia-Pacific region this week. Clinton is heading to San Francisco to co-host the Australia-United States Ministerial Consultations with Defense Secretary Leon Panetta.

The pair will meet with top Australian officials to discuss challenges in the Asia-Pacific region, according to a State Department spokeswoman.

On Friday, Clinton is set to deliver a keynote address to the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation Women and Economy Summit. The summit’s goal is to advance opportunities for women in the private sector. Clinton is also chairing the High-Level Policy Dialogue on Women in the Economy, which will make recommendations to APEC leaders when they gather in Honolulu this November.

APEC’s senior officials are meeting in San Francisco through Sept. 26 to prepare for the November conference. Check out Civil Beat’s coverage of the protests that are already brewing ahead of the high-profile event.
