A long line snaked down the sidewalk near Union Station Thursday afternoon as people in Washington waited for lunch from Hula Girl Truck. The Hawaiian-style food truck arrived on the scene in July. Its owner, Mikala Brenner, is originally from Oahu.

Her mission, as articulated online: “Bringing the Aloha spirit to the metro DC area in our tricked out woody truck.”

On the menu: Kalua pork, mac salad, spam musubi, pickled carrots and daikon and more. Along with local flavors, there are some menu items that probably appeal more to a mainland crowd like (groan) Hawaiian Punch. What, no POG?

Either way, it’s great to see such enthusiasm for Hawaii in the nation’s capital. Check out these Federal Energy Regulatory Commission staffers who sported aloha shirts for the occasion:

DC808 skipped the long line this time around (we have deadlines to meet!) but we’re following @hulagirltruck on Twitter so we know where to find a taste of home when we need it.
