The numbers show that 46.2 million people are living in poverty in the United States, including 2.6 million added since 2009. That’s the highest number of people in poverty in the U.S. in 52 years, and represents the highest poverty rate since 1993, the bureau reported.
Median household income dipped to $49,400 last year — a 2.3 percent drop. Groups that saw no statistical change in poverty rate last year included Asians and people aged 65 and older.
