This Twitter post by Slate political reporter Dave Weigel will probably only crack up those who have either worked as Capitol Hill reporters or watched a decent amount of C-SPAN over the past couple of decades:

A primer for the uninitiated: Senate voting is alphabetical, so Hawaii’s alphabetically advantaged Sen. Daniel Akaka has been first in line for quite some time now.

Those who listen in on a lot of Senate votes hear Akaka’s name being read in the roll call over and over and over again (often, Akaka’s name is the only one that’s heard before C-SPAN or the in-house video feed cuts away).

The last example we could find of a U.S. senator whose name would have been read before Akaka’s was Washington Democrat Brock Adams, who retired in 1993.
