12:09 p.m. Transportation Committee Canceled

There will be no Honolulu City Council committee meetings Thursday, as the Transportation Committee has canceled its meeting. Here’s the official notice.

9:47 a.m. Hilton Hawaiian Village On The Agenda

The crowd at this morning’s Zoning and Planning Committee meeting is standing room only, with some overflow out into the hallway. Part of that could be due to a pair of resolutions that would allow the expansion of Hilton Hawaiian Village in Waikiki.

The two resolutions — Nos. 11-277 and 11-278 — would grant a special management area permit and planned development-resort permit for the hotel complex’s proposed master plan, which includes two new towers.

There are a couple of other Waikiki planning matters on the agenda. Because today is Discoverer’s Day, some folks might be off from their construction and architecture jobs and available to spend their mornings down at Honolulu.

Zoning and Planning

Honolulu City Council** committee meetings are usually held on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays, but we’ve got a rare Monday meeting this morning.

The Zoning and Planning Committee, chaired by Ikaika Anderson, has a number of items to consider. One of them is the resolution introduced by Tom Berg that would allow temporary shelters in shipping containers. There’s a proposed set of amendments that the committee will take up.

Mayor Peter Carlisle has no local public events today or at all this week, according to the public schedule put out by his staff Friday. He leaves Tuesday for Incheon, Korea.
