“She is concerned about what the House is suggesting,” Inouye told DC808 in an interview in his office Tuesday afternoon. “They’re trying to increase (spending on) the Defense Department by cutting out monies that we have set aside for the State Department.”
Inouye said that the legitimacy of Clinton’s concerns are “very clear” when seen through the lens of the State Department’s role in Iraq, for example.
“Yes, we’re moving out of Iraq, but in (the Defense Department’s) place, the State Department has to move in,” Inouye said. “The Defense Department is moving out everything so State Department has to provide its own security. People may not realize this. It’s not just the State Department moving in there and making mush. It’s more than that.”
Clinton is scheduled to meet with Inouye at 4:15 p.m. EDT.
