Former Honolulu Mayor Mufi Hannemann is in Washington for a mixture of work and campaign-related business. Hannemann is running for the 2nd Congressional District seat that Rep. Mazie Hirono is vacating to run for U.S. Senate.

DC808 caught up with Hannemann on Thursday afternoon. He’s visiting in his capacity as president of the Hawaii Lodging & Tourism Association (Hannemann recently spearheaded a name change for the association, formerly known as the Hawaii Hotel & Lodging Association).

He also held a fundraiser, hosted jointly by Marriott Hotels and the American Hotel & Lodging Association.

“It’s going very well,” Hannemann said of his campaign. “There’s still a long way to go but I’m very pleased with the polling numbers and endorsements that have come our way, as well as grassroots support.”

Check Civil Beat later for more from our conversation with Hannemann.
