We keep seeing that number: $400,000.

The buzz is that Republican Senate hopeful Linda Lingle pulled in that much in the first few days after she announced her candidacy last week. The National Journal reported that Lingle’s campaign leaked the information.

It’s worth noting that $400,000 (in a matter of days!) is more than either of Lingle’s Democratic opponents — former Rep. Ed Case and Rep. Mazie Hirono — made over the course of the last three-month quarter.

The Republican former governor has proved her fundraising prowess in the past, and she already said she’s aiming to rake in at least $8 million for this race.

But the National Journal argues that, in this age of super PACs, early fundraising to individual candidates matters less and less.
