The Hawaii congressional delegation is hosting a performance of Cry for the Gods at the U.S. Capitol on Wednesday.

The play tells the story of the 1893 overthrow through a conversation between Queen Lili‘uokalani and John L. Stevens, the State Department minister who was accused of helping to orchestrate the overthrow.

The actor who plays Lili‘uokalani is Leolani Hill, a long-time scheduler for Sen. Daniel Akaka’s office. DC808 was wowed by the play in a showing at the D.C. Fringe Festival in July (and we can only imagine what an amazing job Kumu Kahua Theatre would do with this work).

If you’re in D.C., swing by the Capitol Visitors Center Auditorium at noon. And make sure to say aloha to DC808 while you’re in town!
