The U.S. State Department is gearing up for the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation, which is to be hosted in Honolulu early next month. 

“Our emphasis on the economic work of APEC is in keeping with our broader commitment to elevate economic statecraft as a pillar of American foreign policy,” said Secretary of State Hillary Clinton in a statement issued by her office on Monday. ”Increasingly, economic progress depends on strong diplomatic ties and diplomatic progress depends on strong economic ties.”  

The following 21 world economies are considered to be APEC members: Australia; Brunei-Darussalam; Canada; Chile; China; Hong Kong, China; Indonesia; Japan; South Korea; Malaysia; Mexico; New Zealand; Papua New Guinea; Peru; Philippines; Russia; Singapore; Chinese Taipei; Thailand; United States; Vietnam.
