The U.S. House rejected a move to create a balanced budget amendment to the U.S. Constitution. The measure failed in a 261 – 165 vote on Friday.
Rep. Mazie Hirono was among those who voted against the proposal.
“This is more than tightening our belt, this is a vice grip – and Hawaii’s seniors, veterans and families would be trapped in it,” Hirono said in a statement released by her office. “This isn’t what people in Hawaii want.”
Rep. Colleen Hanabusa also voted “no,” her spokeswoman told DC808.
