As Republicans work to reclaim a majority in the U.S. Senate, Democrats are trying to shore up their campaigns to prevent such a switch.
One big year-end question mark will be how much former Hawaii Gov. Linda Lingle, a Republican, pulls in over the course of her first fundraising period. Lingle announced her Senate candidacy shortly after the last filing deadline.
We’ll have to wait until early 2012 to find out what she raised.
Democratic Rep. Mazie Hirono and former Rep. Ed Case, also a Democrat, are duking it out for the opportunity to challenge a Republican for the seat.
Lingle is the best-known GOP candidate. Republican Honolulu attorney John Carroll is also running for the seat.
