Oct. 31 was the deadline for the city and county of Honolulu to formally finalize its plans for brining a Wahiawa elderly care center into compliance with federal grant standards. At stake: $7.9 million in federal grants that Honolulu was told it would have to repay if it didn’t.

But the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) told DC808 that, as of nearly 8 p.m. EST on Nov. 1, it had received “nothing yet” and couldn’t definitively say when the required materials would be submitted.

Spokeswomen for HUD and the city did not immediately reply to DC808’s inquiries about whether the city was granted an extension, or potentially missed its deadline.
