Rep. Colleen Hanabusa issued a statement about Jon Van Dyke, the acclaimed constitutional law professor who died on Tuesday.

“Hawaii has lost more than just one of its foremost legal scholars with the passing of Jon Van Dyke. He also brought his considerable skill and passion to advocating for Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander rights, protecting individual liberties, and keeping Hawaii a place we can all be proud of,” Hanabusa said. “Like so many in Hawaii who knew Jon, I will miss his brilliance, his kindness, and his service to our state. It is with a heavy heart that I extend my sincere condolences to his wife Sherry and their children.”

Hanabusa called it a privilege to have worked with Van Dyke, emphasizing his “clarity of analysis” and “dedication to doing what was right.”
