After an abrupt end to the decades-long coaching career of Penn State’s Joe Paterno this week, the Wall Street Journal drew up a list of other prominent figures who have been at their jobs for longer than most.

The newspaper pointed to Hawaii’s U.S. Sen. Daniel Inouye, who joined the Senate in 1963 (Inouye was a congressman before that); Michigan Democratic Rep. John Dingell, who has been in Congress since 1955; and Queen Elizabeth, who took the throne in 1952.

Paterno started coaching at Penn State in 1966, and was fired this week in the wake of allegations that he failed to fully report child sex abuse allegedly committed by another member of the coaching staff.

Read the Wall Street Journal’s complete list of 10 people who have been at their jobs for about as long as Paterno.
