Michael Spires, 68, said he has lived in the apartment below federal agent Christopher Deedy for years.

In an interview with DC808 on Tuesday morning, Spires said he was shocked to hear that Deedy was charged in connection with a fatal shooting at a Waikiki McDonald’s.

“That’s just not him,” Spires told Civil Beat in an interview outside of Deedy’s apartment building Tuesday morning. “That doesn’t sound like him at all. He’s very level, very dependable… Chris is just not the kind of guy who goes around killing people. Oh my goodness, no.”

Spires said he couldn’t believe that Deedy would shoot anyone unless it was required for his job as a special agent in the U.S. State Department’s Bureau of Diplomatic Security.

“If he did shoot somebody, he had to,” Spires said. “ Because if Chris had to step up to the plate, I would imagine he would step up to the plate. I sure hope this thing works out for him.”
