House Transportation and Infrastructure Chairman Rep. John Mica, R-Fla., is bringing back a plan to privatize airport security.

In a statement on his website, Mica writes that “qualified private contractors” should be considered instead of the current Transportation Security Administration (TSA), which he calls “bloated.”

Mica also blasts TSA for a decade of “mismanagement and failures.”

The agency made headlines in Hawaii this fall when it fired dozens of employees after an investigation into improperly screened baggage at Honolulu International Airport.
