The Oahu Metropolitan Planning Organization‘s will include a $1 million study for alternate access roads to the Waianae Coast despite objections from the Hawaii Department of Transportation.

Honolulu City Council member Tom Berg pushed for an amendment to keep the study in, and got enough votes at a meeting Tuesday to make that happen. At Honolulu Hale a few hours later, he thanked colleague Nestor Garcia for his help, and was clearly in a happy mood.

Today, he sent out a newsletter celebrating the victory with video from the meeting, held at the Capitol. The video includes testimony from three Leeward Oahu residents imploring OMPO to keep the study alive.
