Mayor Peter Carlisle will ignore a resolution from the Honolulu City Council urging that he establish a joint federal-state-city task force to prevent flooding on the Leeward Coast.

But it’s not because he disagrees with the idea. He just thinks it’s redundant.

In a memo to the Council earlier this month, Carlisle pointed to a pre-existing working group. Carlisle said that instead of forming a new task force, he’ll simply instruct his agencies to work on the Lualualei Flood Improvement Program.

District 1 Council member Tom Berg is unhappy with the decision, criticizing it in a newsletter last week.
