Secretary of State Hillary Clinton is launching an initiative to increase the number of women in public service at local, national and international levels.

Clinton is hosting a forum in Washington to discuss the project on Thursday. Speakers will include IMF Director Christine Lagarde, former Secretary of State Madeleine Albright, United Nations Administrator Helen Clark, activist Gloria Steinem and other prominent women leaders.

“Women have to be part of the future,” Clinton said in a statement. “It’s imperative that as constitutions are created, as political parties are organized, as elections are waged and won, nobody can claim a democratic future if half the population is marginalized or even prevented from participating.”

The Women in Public Service Project involves a partnership with Bryn Mawr College, Barnard College, Mount HolyokeSmith and Wellesley.
