The world’s coral reefs are being ravaged by global warming and human activities such as blast fishing, in which fishermen set off explosives to kill or stun large schools of fish. The practice is highly destructive to coral reefs.

But scientists aren’t lacking when it comes to creative ways to try to restore them. Scientists from Hawaii are involved in an effort to freeze the sperm of coral so it can later be regenerated, and a recent story in Discovery News details efforts in Bali that electrify coral. It seems to be working.
