Aside from a trip to get shave ice at Island Snow, Michelle Obama and her daughters have stayed mostly out of the public eye during their time in Kailua so far, Politico reports.

President Barack Obama may be able to join them in time for Christmas day. The payroll tax fight that kept him in Washington is expected to end Friday, as Republicans gave in and agreed to a two-month tax cut extension. The House still has to vote on the matter.
