Twenty-nine states place restrictions on giving and receiving campaign contributions during the legislative session, according to the National Conference of State Legislatures.
In some states, the ban applies only to contributions by lobbyists, principals and/or political committees; other states have a general ban on contributions.
Hawaii is not among those 29 states, though good government advocates say taking money from a lobbyist while bills are being heard is bad form.
