Larry Geller of Disappeared News wrote about the issues of light pollution today, expanding upon a Civil Beat story posted Tuesday.

He stresses the costs to taxpayers for the state and counties to light public facilities — street lights, stadiums, parks, etc. — and argues that better technology could help.

He writes:

Remember—we pay the highest electricity rates in the nation. Why should we waste money with mediaeval engineering design?

Louise Kim McCoy, press secretary for Mayor Peter Carlisle, told Civil Beat that the city’s electricity bill for street lighting alone, was $6.4 million for the 2011 fiscal year.
