Rep. Mazie Hirono is among a group of representatives seeking a hearing to address issues related to the Compact of Free Association between the United States and Micronesia, the Saipan Tribune reports

A report by the Government Accountability Office recently found that Hawaii, Guam and the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands are still shouldering a huge portion of the costs associated with the federal government’s COFA agreement. 

Hirono and Rep. Colleen Hanabusa recently introduced legislation aimed at getting more federal funding for Hawaii and other areas affected by COFA. Read more about that bill from Civil Beat’s earlier coverage.
