The state Ethics Commission has issued a reminder that the State Ethics Code prohibits a legislator or employee from accepting any gift — including holiday gifts — “if it is reasonable to infer that the gift is intended to influence or reward official action.”
Those gifts include meals, receptions and holiday parties, though “modest gifts of aloha” like cookies are generally accepted.
