After bitter debate on the House floor Tuesday morning, House lawmakers rejected a bipartisan Senate proposal to extend a payroll tax cut for two months. 

The measure failed in a 229-193 vote. Both of Hawaii’s congresswomen have advocated for extending the tax cut.

So has President Barack Obama, who chastised Congress for “political brinksmanship” and said that he won’t leave for his vacation in Hawaii until the matter is resolved.
