Lots of buzz coming out of Lanai this week.

Here’s the latest from Civil Beat sources: David Murdock, Lanai’s billionaire owner, landed on Lanai yesterday. As his entourage proceeded from the airport to his house in Manele, local residents waved signs supporting and opposing the 200 megawatt wind farm being proposed for Lanai.

Lanai residents are on edge following news that David Murdock could be selling Lanai, and maybe even closing down operations if there’s no buyer, due to heavy financial losses.

Meanwhile, here’s the latest commentary (subscription needed) from Jay Fidell on Lanai and the Big Wind situation – published today in the Honolulu Star-Advertiser. Fidell is founder of ThinkTech Hawaii

Pro-wind farm supporters, many of them members of local unions, waved signs last month when legislators were on the island to talk to the community about Big Wind.
