A Washington Post article today reported that black students in Washington, D.C.-area schools were suspended or expelled two to five times more often than their white counterparts.
It’s an important statistic because suspensions can contribute to lower grades and higher dropout rates.
I’m checking with the Department of Education to find out how we can get the ethnic breakdown for suspensions and expulsions in Hawaii schools.
