Results from a necropsy (an animal autopsy) on a monk seal found dead on Molokai Wednesday were inconclusive, according to Wende Goo, a NOAA spokeswoman. 

As a result, officials will send off samples of the endangered mammal to various labs across the country for analysis — results could take weeks to months.

The young, male monk seal was found on the western shore of Molokai.
