After years of uncertainty, the fate of two Hawaii Superferries may be determined. Congress has given clearance to the Navy to spend $35 million on the vessels, according to the Virginian-Pilot newspaper.
The ferries would become Defense Department sealift vessels, which means they could transport weapons, troops or carry out other strategic duties. No word on when a transfer to the Navy would be carried out.
