Gov. Neil Abercrombie, Public Safety Director Jodie Maesaka-Hirata and Sheriff Shawn Tsuha will be on hand for the grand opening of a new booking and warrants facility.

It’s set for 11:30 a.m. today (Wednesday) at 240 Keawe Street — in the Kakaako area across the street from the Gold Bond building, behind the old pumping station.

Press release:

The previous location at Halawa Correctional Facility made it difficult for people to voluntarily turn themselves in and resulted in delays in processing arrests. The construction and planning of the new facility was a joint effort by PSD, federal officials, other state agencies, local contractors, designers, and utility companies who all recognized the need.
